This year we are visiting Ambubachi mela in Kamakhya temple Guwahati, Ambubachi is a yearly mela organised in Kamakhya Devi mandir in Guwahati Assam. This temple in Assam honours the menstrual cycle of a goddess or in other words menstrual cycle of a women . For a period of three days called Ambubachi , Kamakhya temple remains closed to the public to mark the annual menstrual cycle of the goddess. Ambubachi mela is a unique festival that celebrates Shakti and fertility. Perched in Nilachal hills Kamakhya temple has been worshipped from centuries by locals in Assam and devotees from worldwide.

The Ambubachi Mela is a four-day festival that honours the yearly menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya who represents the regenerative power of the feminine. During this period, the temple remains closed for three days, symbolising the menstruation cycle and a time for the Goddess to undergo rejuvenation. Devotees observe rituals and abstinence; for example, widows, brahmacharis, and brahmins abstain from consuming cooked food during these days.
On the fourth day when the temple reopens after a thorough cleanse with holy water, devotees throng to the temple seeking blessings from the goddess Kamakhya.
